MY STORY
Meet Neil Wood – Your Wairarapa Building Expert
Hi, I’m Neil Wood, owner of Wood Developments Group and a Wairarapa builder with over 30 years of experience across New Zealand and Australia.
Growing up, I had a passion for working with my hands, whether it was building treehouses or helping my dad with home projects. At 16, I began my apprenticeship in commercial high-rise construction, which opened my eyes to the vast world of building.
After crafting my skills in the housing industry, I took a leap of faith and moved to Australia. There, I spent 20 years immersed in everything from multi-million-dollar waterfront mansions to mine sites. Each project taught me invaluable lessons about quality workmanship, communication, and the importance of honesty in every interaction.
A Wairarapa Builder Who’s Seen the World
Returning home to New Zealand was a decision driven by family. The best decision I’ve ever made as I met my lovely wife Julia and together, we started Wood Developments Group right here in beautiful Wairarapa. Over the past few years, I’ve completed 14 projects and am proud to say my clients have become raving fans of our work. WDG is a proud member of New Zealand Certified Builders and I’m a Licensed Building Practitioner — credentials that matter when you’re putting your biggest investment in someone’s hands.
I’m not just a builder; I’m a craftsman who cares deeply about the people I work with and the homes I create. If you’re looking for a builder who values honesty, quality, and communication, I’d love to help you bring your vision to life.
When I’m not building, I’m either at the gym, mountain biking, or enjoying a good game of rugby league! Dare I mention golf – put it this way, I try. I spent years paddling outrigger canoes in Australia, competing both nationally and internationally. I also have a passion for smoking meat, which brings friends and family together around the table.
I believe the key to my success is my attention to detail and my communication skills. A builder that doesn’t communicate loses the client’s trust. I aim to keep you informed every step of the process.
